If the card only has DVI-D, nothing will work. The card needs a DVI-I port for the adapter to work. And check the card package you plan on getting. Most come with an adapter.
D=digital
I=integrated (both digital and analog)
VGA is an analog signal

yes it is outputting to a vga so it should work.

Hmmm... yeah, it looks like both those card's manufacturers gave up on DVI-I. Just DVI-D. You'll either need a new monitor or a A/D converter. Myself, I'd opt for the new monitor if possible.

I didn't understand the audio, but it appears he was using the D/A converter we mentioned. Apparently that converter is power from the +5v available at pin #18 of the HDMI connector.
How is it working for you? Lots of folks ask about using converters, but so many are garbage.
