Just built a new computer with stock Intel cpu fan. The bios is saying the cpu is reaching 99-100 and the system is at 45. Also my computer keeps crashing, could this be due to the high temps? Would you recommend I get a better cpu fan? I'm new to the whole building computers scene. Thanks in advance

Build:
Gigabyte h170 MB
Evga gtx960
Intel icore 5 6600

You have a definite CPU cooling problem. Go back and double check the mounting to make sure the cooler sits flat on the CPU and all of the pins are locked correctly into place. Also make sure the fan is spinning. At 100C, your CPU is thermally throttling and more than likely the cause of your crashes.

What BadActor said. You should not be at 100c ever. Even if you were stress testing.

If I were you I would definitely check the cooler mounting and thermal paste on the heatsink... stupid question but did you remove the plastic on the cpu heatsink?

Sometimes coolers come with those on and they need to be peeled off.

I hate to ask because it makes it sound like I think you [strike]are a dumb ass.[/strike] MODERATOR EDIT
