I have a 500w computer and a 15w monitor. Suppose my computer draws a full 500w all the time to avoid any complications in calculations. :p

Would a UPS with a va rating AND a watt capacity of 650 suffice? Enough for it to last atleast 5 minutes for me to rush-save everything?

I should also point out that I'm completely oblivious to how UPSes work and only rely on knowledge gathered form youtube videos. D:

If its anything to consider, my specs are:
- B85 Pro Gamer
- Palit Dual Storm GTX 970, 2gb DDR5
- 2x8 16gb Kingston Hyper Fury X
- i7 4790
- 6 120mm fans. 2 for cpu cooling, the rest for intake and out take.
- S20D300 for my monitor. Don't judge pls. It was cheap at the time :'(

Usually an UPS with 650W output rating carry model number of 1000 because it's 1000 VA.
My PC is similar to yours and draws between 70 and 180 Watts. The only time it drew more than 200W was during power supply torture test using OCCT. Monitors draw between 10 and 40W, depending on size and power supply efficiency.

As darkbreeze said, any 500W unit will last enough (between 5 and 25 minutes) for you to shut the PC down properly. Keep in mind that a 500W unit will carry 750 mark in its model number, since manufacturers like to put the VA rating instead of wattage to make them look more powerful.

Look at this one for example:

It says 550 but it's only 330W! But unless you are doing...
That would depend on the model of the UPS, whether it's actually capable of providing it's rated capacity and what the reason for the power failure was? With a good unit, yes, it would easily be capable of doing that. Even a middling quality unit of 500w would be able to unless you happened to be performing a high current draw task or gaming at the exact moment that the failure occurred.

It says 550 but it's only 330W! But unless you are doing benchmarks during power outage, it shold be enough to hold your PC for 5-10 minutes.

I use a 1000VA / 650W UPS and have everything except the printer hooked to it, internet router included (you probaly want to keep playing online even if a short power outage happens).
