When playing games I have the settings turned up and the fps will be high, but I will get random lag spikes and i'm forced to turn down the settings for fluency. When I bought a MSI GeForce GRX 1070 I thought I could crank up the settings and run games smoother. However this hasn't been the case. Playing games like DayZ the game stutters and freezes randomly with the settings high even though my fps wont dip below 100.
PC Specs
i5 4670k @4.2 ghz
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 slightly overlocked
8 gb DDR 3
Seagate 1TB Desktop HDD

I'm wondering whether the problem lies in the 8gb of RAM or my harddrive. The box for the 1070 does say it recommends 8gb.
P.S. I have a 144hz monitor and capping it doesn't work

It's happening with Arma 3 too could be poor optimization but why would it recommend 16gb? Does it make that big of a difference?

I am not really sure to be honest. I know older cards use to be able to harvest some ram but seems redundant now...
I would try a benchmark test and post results :) If that comes back fine it is because Day Z is a bit poor.
