Is upgrading really necessary yet?

My current system:

CPU: I5-4690k, stock cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 7
Ram: 4 x 4GB Crucial Ballistix sport DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800)
Video card: EVGA Geforce GTX 970 4GB
HDD 1: WD Black 1TB (Don't remember the speed atm, sorry)
HDD 2: WD Black 1TB (same)
PSU: EVGA supernova 750 G2

I'm at the point of being able to upgrade again, and am trying to decide whether to upgrade the CPU to an I5-6600k (with appropriate motherboard and RAM), or just to add a 2nd GTX 970. I guess my question is, which would i really get better results from?

I agree. If you have some cash to burn why not get some SSDs? A 240-256GB model for your OS and programs, and then a larger (960-1TB+) for your steam folder. Assuming 1080/60Hz you should have a good setup.

Certainly the gpu, upgrading to a 6600k from a 4690k would do little to nothing in most games. If you want more cpu performance get a cooler and overclock, that's the point of a Z97 mobo and unlocked k chip. Do you even need to upgrade the gpu? Has your 970 held you back in any games? If your playing at 1080p 60hz I doubt it has.

yeah, I'm playing at 1080p/ 60hz . The 970 doesn't seem to be holding me back in any way, I just noticed when I bought DOOM, that the recommended requirements listed the 970 or better, and with Dishonored 2 coming up, I was thinking i should upgrade now, and avoid having to wait after i got it to play it, like what happened to me with Fallout 4.

A 970 will be plenty for dishonored 2. Don't read into recommended specs too deeply, in my experience more often than not they are way off.

A new SSD would be a definite upgrade. I didn't realize how much difference they could make until I had one. If you want to spend some more money get a sweet 1440 monitor wide aspect ratio and a GTX 1070. Another 8 GB of RAM would be nice as well. 16 GB is about the standard for upgrades and new builds.
