I have an Asus P8Z68-V LE motherboard - in need of ram replacement. All the ram I could find in the QVL seems discontinued or no longer readily available. I currently have 4x4GB Crucial Ballistix sport, that are going bad. I was looking to replace them with G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM. Would these be a suitable replacement? If not, I am open to any suggestions. Thank you in advance for any help.

Solution
The RipJaws X should be fine, they were designed aimed at the 1155 mobos (like yours. With a 2600K and if planning to OC it at all 1866 and 2133 are also good options, for 16GB would look to a 2x8GB set

Since you operate off of a Z68 platform you're pretty much open to DDR3 ram kits above 1600MHz. So any kit from here will do you good. You might want to shed some light on DDR3 1600MHz kits since they cost as much as a DDR3 2133MHz+kit so that means going for a DDR3 2133/2400MHz or more kit will be worth while provided your platform can take advantage of that frequency.

I am curious though what is your processor and by that the rest of your system's specs?

Off the bat, you're good to go with 1600MHz ram kits since your board supports that frequency as a minimum without applying overclocks. You can also take a look at this thread which also suggests that you go for 1600MHz ram kits.

The reason I asked to go for higher spec'd ram kits is due tot he fact that at the time of writing that, the prices for 2133MHz were priced at or near 1600MHz kits. If your system can handle 2133MHz ram kits then you benefit from the performance boost(albeit with an overclock) otherwise running at 1600MHz won't hurt your wallet since they were picked up less than a 1600MHz ram kit.

There is one caveat with this method though, given that overclocking stresses the components and the system overall you may not have a fruitful endeavor if and when you overclock on an old system. Rest of your specs's...?
