Hello,

I just built a brand new PC (my first one) and everything has slowly come together, except that the Windows 10 installer cannot find my HDD. Bios sees it, but installer and >diskpart in cmd do not.

Through my long days of researching, this is what i've figured out that i CANT do:
--go online and download xxx (because i can't boot from that computer to go online)
--go to device manager and xxx (again, cannot boot)
--repair computer during install to partition drive (diskpart doesn't see the drive either)
--<something about RAID/AHCI/IDE or whatnot> (it is set to AHCI)
--hook to another PC as an external HDD to format (only have a laptop, and no cradle-no way to attach)

Please help.. I've spent DAYS.. not hours, DAYS.. trying to figure out what to do. I think now i just need to download a device driver and pop it in a thumb drive. However, my issue is that i can't FIND the dang driver that i need. everything i've found is an 'auto scanner' thingy that scans your current computer for drives.

Any ideas???

Here are my PC parts:

Also, aren't these drivers supposed to come standard in a windows installer? Or am i mistaken?

question have you disable intel rapid storage in bios?

anyways if you want to try drivers download your drivers here http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/sata/Asmedia_Win7-81_V2091_Win10_Vv3160.zip?_ga=1.60376235.706628411.1469285960 (windows 10 drivers sata for MAXIMUS VIII HERO)

then open the zip
open folder: Asmedia_Win7-81_V2091_Win10_Vv3160
open folder: Win10
open folder: Driver_win10
open folder: stahci
open folder: i386

those four files are your driver files for your sata controller, those are the ones you want to put on a usb drive and then point windows 10 install to when it ask for drivers.

I really doubt that its a driver issue but think you still have incorrect bios settings somewhere.

Windows has all the drivers it needs for install. The drive is unformatted and installer should take it from there. From bios the setting should be ahci.

But, when you type "diskpart list disk", it will not list any disks? If so, that's definetly a problem.

The motherboard has gray and black connectors, I'd guess all should be bootable but grey ones are connected to chipset so try them.

Its possible its a bios setting, but i've been through every one of the settings to make sure that they are set the way they are supposed to be. but no, Intel Rapid Storage is not enabled. I'll give these drivers a try and see what else i can do. Thanks for the response!

i put the drivers (both the zip file, and the 4 files you pointed to separately) on the zip drive. but when i try to go to them, it says "No signed device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK." I was able to see the zip drive, so i know it can see that... but i'm at a loss..
