does this motherboard: Intel Corporation DH61WW (CPU 1)

compatible with GeForce GTX 1060 or GTX 970

or it's too old to run these new cards..

I'm sure because eventhough your motherboard is older than mine, the one I have is pcie 2.0 16x and yours is pcie 3.0 16x. Therefore, your motherboard would actually be better than my newer board.

I bought the Asus gtx 1060 strix

I am really excited about this card but for some reason I cant get it to run my games on higher/maxed settings at all. Frame rates are not stable either, this is my build:

Motherboard: A78-E35
CPU: AMD A6-6400K APU 39000Mhz
GPU: ASUS GTX 1060 Strix O6G
500 W PSU
8GB of Ram

Your problem is your a6 apu it's simply to weak for that kind of horsepower and you will be severely bottlenecked (I used to have one paired with a 660 and it couldn't get bf3 above 30 fps)
