Last week, I bought a new WRT1200 AC Linksys router and it keeps dropping. It's not the ISP. When the cable modem is plugged directly into PC, it never drops. I have had two 1/2 hour calls, 1 full hour call with Linksys and it works for about an hour and then drops again. They have changed the settings twice, I have the latest updates, etc. etc. Is it the router itself? Thanks.

Thanks for replying, Kanewolf. I'm unclear as to what you mean by "wired to the Linksys or only wireless." Linksys is the wireless router. The router is connected to the cable modem. The DHCP is set up as "numerous."

If you have a computer connected to the wired ports on the linksys does it drop connection or is only wireless clients that disconnect?
The DHCP lease time should be on a display like this
KB25661-005_EN_v8.png

In the example it is 1440 min.

On mine:
Start IP address is the same (192.168.1.100)
Max # users:100
IP address range is 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.199
Lease time is 1440 minutes

To your first question. On our old router, my husband's Ipad and iphone kept getting dropped. My ipad, phone and PC never did. But if I unplugged the router power button in back of the router, his devices always came back up. Because of his devices, we bought this new router. First hour or so, after setup, everything was perfect. Then it started dropping all of our devices as well as the connection on my PC. This was the 1st time my PC network was ever affected. That's why I spent several hours with a Linksys tech on the phone. So I plugged my modem directly into the PC tower for a day and had no drops. If you don't mind, I'd like to go through what cords/cables are connected between the devices, in my next reply to you, because so far there have been no drops today. Thanks.

Kanewolf. After this discussion, nothing dropped all day until later in the evening. Then it was on and off again yesterday. If you have a minute, I'd like to verify that all my cords/cables are plugged in to the correct devices. Thankss,

sorry I see you are talking about the lights on the front. The light is on marked power, he other for he internet, and the T for the port I am using. I've tried ports 1, 2 and 4 for this problem. doesn't seem to make a difference. But I will watch the internet light when the router drops again. I know it's not the modem because i plugged that directly in to the tower days ago and it never dropped.
