My PC just recently has started running way too hot to keep stable. I bought a Corsair H80i water cooler for it about a year ago, but I have an AMD Phenom II X4 965 that is idling at 82° C. I have cleared all the dust out of the machine and reapplied thermal past but I'm still sitting in the 80s at idle speed. Is there something I could possibly be missing? I'd like to avoid taking it into a shop if possible, but can as a last ditch effort.

Solution
Might be too much or too little thermal compound, only need a bit, about the size of a grain of rice. Could also be the cooler is going bad - do you still have the factory cooler, could try it

80C at idle is far too hot, Do not use your system till this is rectified.

Ideal temps are 10-15C above ambient and 60-65C under load.

Sometimes air or gunk inside the sealed unit will prevent the pump from efficient operation.
Have you tested the unit outside the case to see if the pump actually works.?
If you feel it isn't working properly, then return the unit if its still under Warranty or replace it.
