I am being very cautious as I have spent a lot of money on a gaming PC that I am building.
I am very inexperienced and wondered what happens to my parts inside my PC if I was to turn it on and a cable was connected in the wrong place in the mother board (It should be correct as I followed the manual very carefully e.g. one of the front usb cables from the case could be in the wrong slot).

Would any parts break?
Is it ok to see if it all works without the GPU as that is coming in a few days (hopefully)?

Thanks

Solution
You can damage a motherboard with USB connections if you plug them in wrong. You can put a ground wire to a powered pin (short circuit) and melt the cable or damage the motherbaord. IF you are concerned have someone else read the manual, and the cable labels and verify your work before powering on.

ok thanks
If it boots up ok into the bios does that mean it is likely 99% working or could there still be problems?

Thanks
But it will break the mother board if a cable is even 1 slot off?

Most cables are keyed so that they only install one way. USB uses a blocked so that you can't install it wrong.

but i have plugged 3-5 different cables into that single slot?
Is that all wrong to have most of the cables from the front like the hhd led and power led pluged into to a slot like on the picture
