Just scrapped some old Dell computers from a yard sale and I discovered various parts. Out of curiosity I am trying to make a cheap "gaming" computer with one of these cpu's paired with an old GTX 460 1gb and 4gb of G.Skill 800Mhz DDR2 ram that I also found at the sale. CPU cooler is a stock Intel one.

Which one of the cpu's is better for this task using these parts?

Games I will try to run are Crysis 1, ES: Oblivion, and Age of Empires 2. All rely majorly on CPU quality.

Edit: Clarification on some parts

I can't recall clockspeeds and core count (check Intel ARK) but the Pentiums of that era were quite neutered. Cache was very small and performance suffered greatly. tbh if you have the stuff just laying around, grab some thermal compound and try them both out :) A fun experiment if nothing else!

The Pentium has a higher clock than the Core 2 Duo, but like you said the Pentium does have a lower cache than the Core 2 Duo. Tomorrow I will be testing both cpu's. Looking to run AIDA64 and Prime 95. Will post results and screenshots also.

I am not looking to buy another processor. I currently have a i5-6400 in my main rig, but I was just wondering which of the two was better. My money is on the Core 2 Duo doing better, but perhaps the slightly higher clock speed of the Pentium will be enough.
