Hi guys,

Two days back, I was using the hard disk and in between it suddenly stopped getting detected in My Computer. When I checked Device Management. It is getting detected under 'Disk Drives', but in Disk Management I didn't see any information about my hard disk which was still connected to the computer.

When I connect it to the computer I heard 'regular usb detected' sound and installing device dialog box appears which get stuck in halfway while undergoing the procedure.
Also when I remove the hard disk, beep sound is produced.
I can see it detected in the dash tray under 'Safely Remove Storage and Hardware media'(bottom left). While I tried ejecting it using safe remove option, it displays error "USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device" pops up.

I don't have any system to try, though I tried plugging into my Led TV where it didn't get detected.

I tried different solutions mentioned for this problems like uninstalling, updating hardware (USB Port), but it gets stuck while hard disk is connected to that hub.

I really need data from this hard disk as this is my backup drive. Could anyone suggest a method to retrieve data from this hard disk or how to make it come up on my computer.

Update: Now since device is not getting installed in my computer. it's not longer displayed in Safely Remove Storage and Hardware media section.

Thanks in advance.

What do you have for a portable drive, does it disconnect at the base? I have hooked up drives from Seagate with internal cables before as some have a base that comes off and exposes sata power and data. The only thing I had to do to make this work was shave a bit of plastic off the sata power where the lip meets the case. I just used a spare molex to sata power adapter to keep the power supply in tact.

Do not ever open a hard drive, just the enclosure the drive sits in.

First off lets call this what it is, it's your storage drive not backup drive. Backup means that it exists in 2 places 1 being the backup drive and the other somewhere else. Sadly this situation is how you really learn this.

Do all the basics you can first, try a new cable/power supply (usually a common 12v power plug). Test on another machine (Very important), reboot, boot to a live CD and test like mini xp or MediCat windows 10 or linux.

You can also open the device and pull the drive out and slave it using an internal connection or another enclosure, hoping the enclosure is shot not the drive.

I did all the basics that you mentioned. Since I'm not an expert in opening the hard drive I don't want to try the second thing you mentioned. Is there any other method to check if it's totally damaged?

Thanks for your response.
