What kind of ram should I get?

Solution

If he's not using the other RAM in any builds, I don't see any performance hit. Sure, he won't see much increase unless he's doing CAD/Workstation/Virtualisation/Minecraft, but hey, why not. 8 - 16GB is actually a pretty good increase nowadays though. Goodness knows I need...

If you have a dual-channel memory controller, it makes more sense to go 2x8GB as that's less stressful on the mobo/memory controller and you can upgrade more easily to 32GB of RAM later if you want. What's your current CPU/RAM/mobo?

Just go with 2x8, then you can use your existing memory as well. b150 boards have 4 slots max, so then you can use 24GB of memory, instead of just 16. Not that you are going to run out of memory, but 24GB is better than 16.

It's kinda useless when you have over 16( unless you're a youtuber), because most of the games out right now don't really have any gain over 16 considering that the performance you get from 8gb to 16gb it minor around the .5% to 7%.
