Is the EVGA 650G2 PSU compatible with a GTX 1080?

I built a new computer and I am putting it all together but I am having trouble connecting my EVGA FTW GTX 1080 video card to my EVGA 650G2 PSU. Everything I see online says they should be compatible, but my video card has 2 8-pin connectors and my PSU only comes with 6 and 6+2 connectors for VGA. Am I supposed to connect two vga power cables and use one 6+2 from each? Is my PSU not compatible? Did I lose a cable? I'm pretty sure I didn't lose a cable.

Thanks!

yes you use both the 6+2 pins for your PCIe 8 pin power connectors. I have a similar setup with my lepa G1600 PSU and others before it. 6+2 is fairly standard so cables are compatible with more graphics cards though they can be a pain to insert all 8 pins correctly.

So I plug one VGA cable into VGA 1 and plug the 6+2 connector in while leaving the 6 flowting free, then I plug the second VGA cable into VGA 2 and use the 6+2 on that one, and it won't short my videocard?
