can bad wiring to the motherboard kill cpu ?

My pc recently died and after that i noticed that my PSU wiring was strange, wire colors didn't match the pins on the motherboard (i checked what color wire needed to be for specific pin). So my question is, can bad wiring kill my motherboard and even cpu ?

its highly unlikely if the computer was being powered up then everything should be connected fine. A power supply may fail overtime and maybe kill some PC components with it if its not a very good quality. may i ask? what brand what the power supply?

it was some kind of HP PSU. Those that have strange connectors

To be fair hp paus tend to be of reasonable qualityand if its not your normal ATX standard then aome of the wiring colors may be different
