Hello!
In my house I've got a router/modem downstairs, but the ceiling blocks the signal in most of the upstairs area. There is a single ethernet cable going from downstairs to upstairs and I want to mount some kind of access point upstairs. The problem is that I want to have a cable connection to my PC that would be in the same subnet that the downstairs router.

What should I do? Get a switch, connect downstairs router and PC to it, then attach AP to it?
Thanks for answers in response, I am not too familiar with networking so I appreciate any help.

Yep. Essentially, as long as you connect your other router/AP through Ethernet and disable DHCP, you'll be in the same subnet.

Edit: Make sure that you connect the two LAN ports together. Instead of WAN-LAN.

Yes, I get it, but if I mount just an AP, will it allow me to operate on the same subnet as the router downstairs? It is crucial for me that my PC placed upstairs stays in the same range of IPs as the router downstairs.
