So I recently just bought a new motherboard because my old one just took its last breath sadly. I have a liquid cooling system on similar to a Corsair H80. I'm wondering when I switch my liquid cooling to the new motherboard do I need to apply thermal paste to the CPU or not? Also do I need to drain anything from the liquid cooling or will everything just stay intact throughout the process of me switching it over?

Anytime you remove the cooler no mater if it's an air or water cooler you need to clean off the old paste and reapply new paste. Why take the risk in creating air bubbles in the paste which will make the cooler not work as well as it was and could lead to other issues like over heating. It only takes a few minutes to do and can save you a headache later. And if the cooler was on the old system for a while it may be time for new paste any way.

So I can literally just unscrew the liquid cooling, remove it and not worry about any spillage correct? And the same for reinstalling it? Just put it in place, screw it in, plug it in and it'll be good to go?

Thank you! Last question here, to clean off the thermal paste I've seen many people say to use a coffee filter but I don't have any of those at home. Do you know any alternatives to clean off the paste?
