With that CPU you can put any gpu. But since you are limited I guess gtx960 or r9 380 are first choices. rx480 is ~250 bucks I think, so you can try and find something like already used 970 or rx480 if someone is reselling in case that they are dissapointed. But I don't think that you can go over first 2 mentioned in that price range.

Since you have a i7 that won't bottleneck then it depends on what you want.
I'd recommend the rx 480 4gb which is only $30 less than the 8gb
