I'm looking for a new cpu and the xeon and i5 fall into my budget. I am planning on doing gaming, bit of After Effects, recording and streaming. In the two builds I have, the xeon is about 5 dollars cheaper because of the h97 mobo. If I buy the 4690k, I would have to buy a z97 mobo. The mobo i found for the i5 costs about 20 dollars more. I don't know which cpu would be better for my situation.

Xeon might be better if you plan on doing lots of streaming and recording. Xeon benefits from multithreaded applications.

Depends on what he is planning to use the CPU for. There's a reason people choose i7 and Xeon over i5 and why some choose i5 over i7 and Xeon. Can't determine unless I know how much the OP plans on doing those multithreaded applications.
