Yes, I run pretty much same GPU (7970), with just a i7-950 CPU, and run all games, including graphics intense ones like Arkham Knight, all Crysis and Metro, AC Unity, Syndicate, The Witcher 3, etc.
You won't be able to run max settings on all of them, but you will be able to select decent looking settings in any game.
