PCIe Gen3 16x and Gen2 4x good for crossfire?

I am looking at the MSI H97m G43 mobo for my next upgrade, and I was wondering - even though it has crossfire compatability, is it good for two GPUs? I know that ideally I would want 2 16x slots, but there aren't many motherboards for 1150 socket CPUs out there anymore that support it, at least at a reasonable price.

I have already read up on it, and it seems there are two different sides - one side states that it will slow down both GPUs soooo much that it will perform worse than just one of them, and on the other side, I see articles that show a mere 0.5 fps decrease in the second card than if you had them both in 16x slots.

I think the real problem here is the fact the 4x slot is PCIe Gen 2. Does that affect anything?

For reference, I think that once the different RX 480 models come out, I will get two of them and put them in crossfire for 1080p 120hz.

While yes it will give you a boost, at 4x its almost not worth the money you will spend.

The x4 bandwidth generally drags down the x16 card, so while you do get a performance boost its nowhere near what you would get with 2 x8 slots.
