So I have a router and I was wondering if I created a guest network for my sister and I put a password on the first one if it would throttle or reduce internet speed with 2 wifi networks. My sister was on vacation for a month, and during that month I let my mom borrow my xbox and it has a wireless adapter so she connected to the internet and I was on my PC. I played all games no lag at all. It was as low as if I was home alone. But as soon as my sister gets back, the internet went to crap. I'm not exaggerating at all. The internet is so terrible now. She only uses her phone too and I don't know how its possible to use that much of the internet on her phone. She is on it from the time she wakes up which is around 9pm till around 2am. She lays in her bed all day and is on it non stop. Please help I need to know. I also havent been downloading anything, no games nothing on steam. All I do is have one thing open at a time I check task manager too.

use the router see how many people are on. also turn on q service on the router and with her mac info of her phone give her x amount of bandwith. make sure no one else is on the router and she not using her phone for he friends as a hotspot. also make sure she has anti virus for her phone. also see what turned on on her phone. a lot of the new aps send where you are data back alot and some need to be blocked or turned off.

What you can do will be greatly dependent on your router and the software it has. Some have very advanced traffic limiting options and other have pretty much a screen that looks pretty but does not do much.
You need to have a router that you can limit the rate on a device to fix amount both upload and download. You can not really do it by network since you really only have 1 network even if you run things like guest networks. You would need to find the mac address of her devices and put a limitation on it by mac address.
Your first step it read the manual and see how advanced the QoS settings are.
