I bought 1x4gb ram to upgrade my ram and I already have 2x2GB ram 1333 working in dual channel mode
the stick was dead any way and I've taken it to warranty
crucial ballistix sport 4gb 1866 udimm
mind that of course the new one is different bus and brand
I just want to know

1.if I use 1 4gb stick, does the double sticks still work as dual channel and I'll get 4 gb dual channel + 4gb single channel = 8 gb of ram?

2. if by any chance (they weren't available at the time) I could buy a 2x2gb, are the older and newer ones work as separate dual channel too or I will get 8 gb ram with no dual channeling!

I'm using ASUS P7P55D-E mainboard- I've checked the new RAM and it's compatible. Manufacturer said so:

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules."
