I see this has already been asked before but since the dates were from before the card even came out I don't see how the answers given could be that accurate. I simply want to know what to expect if I upgrade my current gtx 960 (2GB:/) to a gtx 1080 in regards to how it will interact with my I5 4670k. I do a decent amount of modding on Skyrim, Fallout 4 and GTA 5 and that would for now be my main reason for upgrading, though not the only reason. I have 8GBs of ram and I run everything at 1080p on my BenQ HT1075. my mobo is Asrock z87 pro 4. From what I understand the 1080 may be overkill for 1080p vs the 1070 but I may need overkill if I can get it because mods. Thanks guys.

What mods are you using? I run skyrim with a light ENB as well as about 100 other mods on a fx 6350 and a gtx 760 and I get 50-60fps everywhere, not sure why you would need the performance of a 1080 for any mod or mods, the 1070 should be more than enough. It has the potential to bottleneck a bit in fallout 4 (mainly because its an old engine thats not optimized very well) and in gta v because its just a cpu resource hog. However at 1080p 60hz I highly doubt you would see any kind of bottleneck, you may see a bit of a bottleneck with like a 1440p high refresh rate monitor.

um no. he could go to 4k+ with no bottle neck with that cpu for 60hz gaming. If your CPU can crank out 60fps at 1080p it can do it at any resolution. It's not like a GPU that gets bogged down as resolution increases. It only issues the draw calls and issues the frames...heavy lifting is GPU side. But you are dead on about refresh rate...when gaming at 90hz or greater the CPU can become a bottleneck very quickly.

I run Sharpshooter's classic ENB on Skyrim and as many HD mods as I can until my game gets unstable, along with varying gameplay mods(I do pretty much the same in Fallout 4 using photorealistic commonwealth or grim wolf's institute variation ENB). I built my PC (my 1st rig) with a gtx 760. Since then, I traded a small harbor freight trailer I wasn't using anymore for a gtx 960. I immediately noticed a difference in how smoothly my Skyrim ran and how many more mods I could stack on before it became unstable (obviously). I'm sure I will get a similar, or even greater, boost in performance moving up to a 1080, I'm just wondering if my cpu can keep up.
