parts:
gtx 960 (geforce edition)
athlon 860k (4ghz)
1000gb hardrive
350gb hardive

When i first built this pc i started with a 350 gb hardrive but i knew soon enough that there would not be enough space. Because of this i got a 1000gb samsung hardrive that was in another pc but was not that old. since i have put the hardrive in it has been making funny noises if i download a game on that hardrive or if i defragment the hardrive/optimize it then makes the noises. it never makes those wierd noises on idle and i checked with crystaldisk info and it says my 1000gb hardrive is fine. is it broken? or is the crystaldisk software wrong?

Welcome to the TH community, @theinfamoustoast!

First of all, I'd advise you to backup all the data from that drive somewhere else ASAP! Afterwards, proceed with the troubleshooting by checking how the HDD is performing from another computer, if you have access to one. Another thing you should look at is the connections to the HDD and how it is mounted inside your PC. Make sure there are no loose screws. You mentioned that it makes these weird noises whenever you download something onto the drive (writing), do they appear when you are launching/playing (reading) from the drive as well?
I'd suggest you check these hard drive sounds. If you find that yours is making a similar noise, then you might want to check the warranty...

I'd suggest you check these hard drive sounds. If you find that yours is making a similar noise, then you might want to check the warranty of the hard drive and RMA it to get a replacement. Unfortunately, some hardware damage/corruption may not be detected by a diagnostic software utility, which would explain why yours has passed the SMART tests.

Keep me posted & Good luck! :)
