I decided to pull the trigger on a new build last night and in my haste/excitement I didn't put a whole lot of thought into the cooler I was buying. I've built two desktops recently with the NH-L9i but neither of them have been with a 6700k.

I really like the NH-L9i for its size and quality, but will it be sufficient to cool the 6700k? Or should I just send it back to Amazon when it gets here and buy something else?

I don't plan on OC at all, but I do game heavily.

Full Build:

i7-6700k w/ Noctua NH-L9i
Gigabyte Z170MX-Gaming 5
Corsair Air 240
Corsair Vengeance LPX 1x16GB 3000Mhz
Samsung 950 Pro
Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming
Antec HCG-620M
2 x WD 1TB Black
1 x Samsung 840 Evo 120GB

Solution

That maxes at 120mm,

Noctua offers the NH U9S or NH D9L both that would fit and are ultra quiet.

If you want to go top flow the NH C14S is good or the Cryorig C1

Err thats not true whatsoever.

I replaced the stock Intel cooler on my server with a Xeon E3-1231V3 with an NH-L9i and it showed to be almost 10c cooler under load and significantly quieter.

That said I would still return it and get a bigger cooler, it will be quieter and more efficient, and if you ever decide to turn it up the system will be ready to go. Its a 6700k you will get the itch eventually!

I've actually seen some reviews that state the contrary (with benchmark results to back it up). I have also read some reviews that are more aligned with your standing. I don't know what to do yet. Lol.

Thanks for quick reply.

It does mention they think something is wrong with it, I would imagine that is actually the case based on my experience.

But that said like I said unless you need a short fan like that, any other cooling solution is far better. Especially for what it costs.

I read that one prior to posting here as well. I really don't want to have to deal with sending this one back, but I think I might have to.

Any recommendations on alternatives? It just needs to fit inside the Air 240. Other than that size really isn't an issue.
