Hi,

Before I begin, a part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/qZmCLD

I'm trying to use an old soundcard in my new PC. It's a Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer card. I'm not sure that the card fits in any of the PCI slots in my motherboard, the Maximus VIII Hero Alpha. I tried to put it in the slot closest to the CPU socket last night and for some reason, the card seems to stick out in the back a bit, by the IO Panel.

To see if I was going mad, I tried to put it back in another PC I had. It worked fine. Is this card even compatible with my board? I'm new to building and I'm not good at this.

Hi,

Yes - I have a strong preference to getting a sound card. I'm not sure how good the onboard sound on this motherboard is to the soundcard I had before, but I'm turning into an audiophile.
