I've had a WD My Passport Ultra for 6 months now, formatted as ExFAT to use on both MAC and PC. However, about a month ago, I tried downloading a Steam game onto it (Have done it before) and it worked fine at first. Then I downloaded another one and it made my hard drive laggy and non-responsive. So I deleted all the gaming files in the hard drive. Now when I plug it into my Macbook, the hard drive is recognized but the files seem to not cooperate. I tried opening a video file and it will open but won't play (most of my files on that hard drive are video files). I plugged it into a PC and it worked perfectly fine.
I also tried to use Disk Utility First Aid and it immediately failed.
How can I fix this without having to wipe my hard drive?

Welcome to the community, @woozy123!

I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD My Passport external drive. Have you tried connecting the HDD using a different USB port on your Mac? If it works flawlessly on the Windows PC, it might be a poor power supply issue and miscommunication between the WD My Passport and your Macbook. You might also want to check the drive for defects using the Disk Utility.

Either way, I'd strongly recommend you backup your data before proceeding with the troubleshooting.
Keep me posted! :)
