I have a bit of a predicament with my internet. I'm not very technologically experienced, but I've never had a problem I haven't been able to solve. However, this problem has me completely fooled. I've spent the last four hours trying to fix this, to no avail.

I have a Charter modem that feeds into a Netgear WNR2500 wireless router. From there I have an Ethernet cable that feeds into my PC. This setup has always worked perfectly for me, but late last night, the internet cut out for a short while, and I haven't been able to get it running 100% ever since.

The first thing I did was hard reset my modem and router, that has worked in the past whenever I have had internet problems. "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" is pretty much my go to when there is a tech problem.

The hard reset succeeded in getting my wireless up and running again, but the Ethernet to my computer does not seem to be connecting. The LAN light on my modem just flashes orange.

However, when I connect my modem directly to my PC and skip the router entirely, I have internet (which is how I'm posting this now). The LAN light flashes green and everything seems to work. I would be fine with this but there are other people in the house who need internet, so I have to get both the Wi-Fi and the Ethernet working.

I have already tried the following:

- Hard resetting both my modem and router (left off for 5 mins+)
- Making IPv4 obtain an IP automatically.
- Setting a static IP for IPv4
- Disabling IPv6
- Different Ethernet cables (I've tried 3)
- Different Ethernet ports on my router
- Restarting my computer
- Disabling firewall
- Deleting/reinstalling drivers
- Disabling antivirus
- Something in Command Prompt, though I'm not a tech person so I'm not actually sure what I did.

I've probably tried more than that but that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

On a side note about the thing I did in Command Prompt, I got an error when I did it, something to the effect of: "an error occured while renewing interface ethernet: unable to contact your DHCP server"

Another side note: I have Windows 10

And yeah, that's where I'm at right now, the last thing I can think of is to buy a new wireless router, but honestly, the Wi-Fi is working, so it's unlikely that the router is the problem. And I'd really like to not spend money if I don't have to.

Sorry the message is so long I just wanted to give you all as much information as possible. Thanks!

Solution
Does the issue happen on all devices in the house or just this one PC? Need to test another system on ethernet off the router. If things work directly on the modem, it shows the issue is with the router.

Did you connect to the router setup page and check if it has a proper IP on the WAN port? It should be something form the ISP, not a 168 or a 192 one.
