Need help upgrading my brother cpu

This is the motherboard his computer has, at any given time when I open task manager it says his cpu is maxing out at 100% sooo... as a good big brother I have set out to see what is the best i can do for him. His computer is an emachine model MCP737VT-PM and his current cpu is an intel Celeron 420 @1.6Ghz. Thanks for your help guys!

That motherboard is extremely old and does not uses an obsolete socket. What does your brother plan to do with his computer? General use? Video editing? Gaming? And what is your budget. Please provide more information in order for me to help you.

plans to use it for gaming but nothing major at most he will be playing left for dead and team fortress 2, as far as budget goes in the range of 100$. Also, yea his computer is old

Does he have a graphics card? Because it is not possible to upgrade the CPU without upgrading the motherboard. Well it is possible, he can look for a used Core 2 Extreme x6800 but in my opinion it is not worth it. It is better to upgrade the motherboard, but if you change the motherboard you will need to buy new RAM as well and most likely a new PSU. If he does not havea graphics card, buying one will boost the performance.

I would recommend a Haswell LGA 1150 with a Pentium G3258 Anniversary edition CPU, or if your budget allows Skylake motherboard, with a i3 6100, i5 6600 or i7 6700 depending on your budget.

For the PSU, choose a PSU from tier 3 and above.

Any motherboard that has LGA1150 will work.

The 2 memory slots will limit it to 4GB RAM. That will hold it back with anything over 1GB GPU RAMand 32 bit OS. I like to hop up old computers as you can see in my sig. But I would skip that one.
