High end photography editing build advice - Skylake i7 6700k & M.2 SSD

Hi all, I'm upgrading an existing system, and need advice on my build.

Reason for upgrade: very slow performance with Lightroom, and frequent out of memory exceptions with photoshop.
System usage:

  • ■ heavy lightroom use
    ■ heavy photoshop use. (currently get frequent out of memory errors with current 16gb ram)
    ■ some HD & 4k video editing - although this is less frequent
    ■ no gaming

Budget: around AU$1,800-2,400

Other Questions:

  • ■As far as I am aware, the mobo/membory/cpu will fit in this existing case okay, and work with my H60 cooling still? Is that correct?
    ■Any compatability issues with the components I'm putting together?

The GTX970 (and 980/1070/1080) are temperamental when it comes to low PSU quality. If it runs without issue, you're fairly lucky, but the PSU might degrade at an increased rate and die much sooner than it normally would.

Stick to the 2400 memory, the storage unit will still usually be the issue.

If you move up to that system though, replace the PSU with something better before you have issues, the Corsair RM550x and EVGA G2 550 are enough and usually cheap, though anything based on Seasonic km3 or SuperFlower Leadex Gold will usually work well.

Other than that, should be a beast of a system.

when you say "the storage unit will still usually be the issue" what are you referring to?
The PSU I have is 750w? why do you think that isn't enough? you suggest that I'll need at least 850w?

1) Unless you put all your working files on the 950Pro, the other storage options will be what limits your processing speed, not the memory clock.
2) No, wattage has nothing to do with it. Look carefully, I listed SMALLER power supplies. The issue is quality, and the gx750 has none of it! The V series is good (seasonic mostly), but gx seems to all be pretty old CWT platforms

Once capacity for m.2 ssd's increases I'll be looking at having a 1Tb working drive. That is why I've picked that mobo which can support 2x m.2 slots

What problems would I be likely to get with this power supply? Seems to have worked fine so far?
