How to install my programs from HDD to SSD

So recently I built a new pc and it works great! Though I had many troubles of installing an OS on my pc so my uncle came over and installed win10 while I was at work. Though, he installed it onto my HDD. My SSD is very old as it only supports up to win8 so I could format my HDD and reinstall win7 through a USB onto my SSD but I love win10 atm. Anyways, my biggest is problem is because of this, all my programs are installed onto my HDD yet I want them installed onto my SSD. Also my SSD isn't a directory option so I can't install any programs on there. Any help or advice to be able to install programs onto my SSD or make it a direftory would be very helpful. Thanks!

So if this is the case it really seems like the issue is caused because of a partition mashup. As mentioned in my previous post, the SSD shows (Active and System partition) on drive F: as well as on drive C:. If there's supposed to be only one OS, then this is probably causing the mixup. This is not your uncle's fault. What I mean is that whenever you install Windows, it's possible for it to write a partition or other system files on a secondary storage drive if there's such, connected during the Windows installation process, as already mentioned.

A fresh install on your SSD or HDD (without having any other drives connected to the motherboard beside the drive you want to install Windows to), should do the trick.

As for the firmware...
Hey there, vanglex.

This sounds a bit odd. There's no reason for an SSD or any other drive not to be supported by Windows 10, so you could go ahead and install it if you want to use it.

Would you please post a screenshot of what you see in Disk Management? Here's how to open it: How to access Disk Management in Windows to manage hard drives.
Can you access your SSD separately from your HDD? If yes, there's no reason for you not to be able to select it as a destination when you install a new program - e.g. when you install a program click custom, or advance options, or browse, or just browse and select the drive and folder you wish to install the program to. Are you sure that this is not an SSHD (a.k.a. hybrid drive)?

Hope that helps.

And yes, I can access it separately but for programs I can't browse for my SSD or sometimes the program installs automatically to the HDD. When I am able to browse it'll even give me an option to install to my ext. HDD and it makes me quite frustrated as even my ext. HDD is a possible holder for programs. Also, my SSD is pretty old. It's a Samsung PNY XLR8 240gb and on the box it says that it only supports up to win8. I even tried installing win8.1 on it once and it didn't make it through but when I installed it on the HDD it worked perfectly. I'm guessing my uncle had the same problem with win10 when he was installing it thus explaining why it's on the HDD.

I see, well about the Windows thing there might be some sort of incompatibility issue although it would be really odd for the SSD not to be able to handle Win 8.1 or Win 10. Perhaps you could check for available firmware updates for that drive model, which could fix those issues.

As for installing programs, it really looks like the Windows installation is messed up. Do you still have an OS on the SSD as it says that it has a System and Active partition.
When installing Windows is always important to have just the drive you are installing the OS to, connected to the motherboard during the installation process. Otherwise issues like this may arise and some partitions and/or system files might be written on one of the secondary drives and cause issues like the ones you're currently experiencing.

If this is the case, perhaps backing up all your files and making a fresh install of Windows and reformatting the SSD afterwards would fix things up.

Please keep me posted.

My uncle told me he installed win10 with both the HD and SSD inside but nothing was in the SSD. Both the HD and SSD were pre-formatted before he installed the OS. Also, I've looked up the model of the SSD I've had awhile back but it didn't pop up anywhere online but I'll try it again and see if I can find a firmware update for it as well. Thanks for all your help so far!

As for the firmware update, if you can't find one, you can simply call the manufacturer's customer support and ask if there's such an update at all.

Good luck!
