Hi I am hoping that one of the experts here can help me with a problem. I bought the Hue+ lighting system for my NZXT Phantom 4 case and installed it per its instructions. It connects to the USB 2 port on the mainboard which takes away the USB 2.0 ports on the top of the case. Lighting is superb in my opinion but has some short comings.
My question is this, Is there a way to connect both to the usb2 port on the main board, an adapter maybe or a Y connection that would allow me to reconnect the usb ports too? I have the GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 board with the intel core I7-4790K and win 7 pro. for operating system.
I am a firefighter so there is a chance I will not be able to answer right away but I WILL answer your questions as soon as I return to the station.
Thank you for any help that you can provide.

A usb port can only handle one device.
I think on that board of yours, the USB header is actually USB3, so you're losing out on USB3 on your case.
As for a "Y connection" - that's only possible with a USB hub.

I think your best bet, sadly, is to get an adapter that lets you connect the lighting system to an external USB on the back of your box, or you will need to buy a USB add-on card that has internal connectors.

The HUE+ box input is micro-USB, so you can use a PCI or PCIe card to add that internally.

*The manual is confusing, but it appears to be a USB2, front panel header on the motherboard side and micro-USB on the HUE+ box.

Thus, you need either:
1) PCIe card with USB2 front panel connector, or

2) PCIe card with USB2 or USB3 (internal to case), and get a USB-to-microUSB cable (ensure proper ends).

I'll post that and look further.

*Hey...

1) Don't I see TWO of those USB2 connectors on your motherboard?
also

2) What USB2 and USB3 connectors does your case have?

Your motherboard appears to support:
a) 2xFront USB2.0, and
b) 2xFront USB2.0 (second connector), and
c) 2xFront USB3.0, and

Am I wrong?

Please accept my apology for being so long with this reply. I am a firefighter for my City and I am a Wild land firefighter volunteer. Spent the last 2 and a half months on the side of a mountain in another state.
No, you are right on the money. It does support 2x USB 2.0 front / 2x USB 2.0 front secondary and 2x USB 3.0.
I have an optional header that pulls all of the USB connections down to the one central location were the disk drives are located. This is the item I am referring to;
Notice the sata and esata ports. I use these ports on a daily basis when I am home that is.. That is connected to the mother board using the USB 1 connections. The hue+ is connected to the second USB 2 port (secondary sub 2.0)
The Hue+ connects to the brain (hue+ box) via micro USB but must connect to the motherboard via USB 2 connection. I never thought of buying an adapter cable to connect the Hue+ to a USB port directly.
I took your advice and bought the 2 items from amazon and connected the hue+ as you suggested and I have my USB 2.0 ports connected as well. I can not thank you enough for the help. I know just enough about these things to be very dangerous to my bank account. lol When I can not figure it out myself I come to the experts such as yourself.
I hope I am able to return the favor some day all though I think it might be a little while before I reach your level of knowledge.
