Ram compatibility question

Hi guys! So I was just generally wondering whether two 8gb sticks of ram of the same brand, model, capacity etc (exactly the same) bought separately (not in a single pack of two) will work together to form 16gb?

So would you recommend it? If I get two sticks this way rather than getting a pack of two I save like $30

It's usually the other way around, but I still would not recommend purchasing separate RAM modules.

Ok one last question, if they do happen to work together, will performance be affected?

it depends on your motherboard mate. It may not support 8GB modules and have to get like 4x4GB modules for 16GB.

4 slots up to 64GB RAM. it supports up to 16GB sticks so yea 8Gb sticks will work. Do you already have one 8Gb stick and plan on buying an extra stick? If yes go ahead, if no prefer a memory module tested on your motherboard(check memory support list on the motherboard site).

Ok thanks a lot, I'll make sure I do that. Also, does "gaming" ram make a difference in gaming performance compared to ram of the same capacity and speed? If so, how?

first time i heard of gaming RAM.If by speed you mean the same MHz, guess they have less CL (CAS Latency). CL is how many clock cycles the memory module will delay in returning data requested by the CPU.
