when i connect my hard disk it shows in system tray (& in device manager) but does not show in disk management. I cannot access the files. It makes normal spinning sound.
It fell once and there were multiple connect/disconnect to an old PC. After that it worked once but then it does not work any more.

i showed to local IT shop. They tried techniques such as Digging and Jumper but could not make it read the data. They said hard disk is intact but maybe motherboard software or hardware failure.

please advise any techniques to recover or make it working again.

Welcome to the community, @nature-guy!

I highly doubt that the HDD is healthy and intact, if it has been dropped. :( Unfortunately, you might be dealing with a physical damage on it. If you have important data on it that wasn't backed up/copied somewhere else as well, you would most definitely need the assistance of a professional data recovery company. You can check some of our partners worldwide on the official website here.

Besides, these WD external drive models incorporate a hardware-based encryption which makes it impossible to access the data without the original or identical enclosure of the product. I'm afraid you won't be able to make it usable again. Even if you do, I'd advise you not to trust any important data with it.

Let me know if you have more questions!
Best of luck!

Hi,
My relative who works in IT sector had earlier successfully tried to partially recover the data.
He used his Mac Laptop to make image of HDD and recover data from image.
See photos. It shows all my folders but he only managed to recover small part of the data.

I am mot able to repeat the above. When i tried to make image of HDD from a Mac Laptop it gave error and was unable to make an image of the HDD.

I also tried Find and Mount, in Windows but it does not progress to create image of HDD. It shows 0% progess.

I run Test Disk utility to analayze data. It manage to see my disk but when i tried to analyze the disk it says unable to access. One surprising thing is now the disk started showing up in Disk Management in Windows as Unallocated and Uninitialized disk.

See photos.

From the TestDisk website (cgsecurity.org), it says if there is read error then try to make raw copy of disk sectors using command line tool like ddrescue in a Linux environment to another disk.

I tried following command using Cygwin (GNU environment for windows):
ddrescue -n /dev/sde /dev/sdf rescued.log
ddrescue -r 1 /dev/sde /dev/sdf rescued.log

I couldn't manage to copy anything. The process is still running but till now no success.
