Hi everyone,

I'm developing an app and I'm wondering about how demanding it should be cpu wise.

Does anyone know what is the market share of the different cpu families (specifically i7, i5 and i3)? By that I mean what part of the general home market has which cpus in their home computers. I found out that about 15% - 20% of the cpus are AMD but i didn't find anything more specific.

Thanks!

These days I would say Pentium is around 10-17.5% ish with i3's being around 20-30%
The single most common CPU at the moment, or popular, is the i7-6700K and the i5-5600K is close behind. However, don't design your app to run on that. (I hope you are desktop, not mobile.) If it's a heavy duty one, try to make it work on the i5-2500, it's still one of the most common chips around. If it's trying to appeal to a bigger crowd, Core2 Duo E8400 is a good one. People upgrade desktops slowly these days.

Yep it's a desktop app.
Right now it runs on i7 and i5, I'm wondering how beneficial it would be to have it run on i3 too (in terms of what percentage of the market will become available).

I cant really find any specific information on this matter but you have to assume that pentium's, core 2 duo's and I3's must hold about 50% market share i5's maybe 35% and i7's I shouldn't think are more than about 15% on intels side on things. that's a rough estimate on the computers that ive seen both in big businesses and from working in a computer repair shop.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Do you have by any chance an estimation about the percentage of the market between i3 vs pentium?
