Hi, I'm thinking of replacing my i5 6600K with the i7 6700K. I'd like to get better performance/quality when streaming as I feel like my stream now is somewhat choppy compared to other streamers out there (who I notice are all on i7 chips). Do you think this would help?

Also, if I do upgrade my chip, what is involved in that? When I swap it out, do I need to re-install Windows or anything? Obviously my current BIOS Overclocking settings will probably be invalid and will need to be reconfigured.

Current specs:

Maximum VIII Hero
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Intel Z170 Platform
Corsair H100i GTX water cooler
Gigabyte 970 GTX G1 Gaming x 2 (SLI)

I've never actually upgraded a CPU before, I usually just build new.

Thanks.

Solution
there was a pre applied thermal paste from corsair on it. The manual says for reinstallation you need to clean and reapply third party thermal paste

upgrading to the I7 will give you better experience while streaming and it will increase your Frame rates on games that use four cores like GTA V and some of the Assassin creed games, when upgrading your cpu you don't need to reinstall windows that is done when the motherboard is upgraded.

also a 6700 and 6700T

update the bios in bios directly, not in windows
reset bios

disassemble the water cooler, careful unlock the cpu socket, don´t bend pins of the socket while lifting the CPU!,
rest, install like new. Don´t forget new thermal paste

windows should recognize the new CPU, you can check it in device manager and task manager. There should be 8 threads then and not just 4.

Ok thanks. When I built this originally, the directions when installing the Corsair Hydro H100i GTX liquid cooler said that I didn't need any thermal paste. I've been running my current setup for 8 months with no thermal paste and my temps have been fine. Do these water coolers actually need thermal paste to keep the cpu cool?
