How significant can the reduction of ping be with ethernet?

Here's my situation, I live in Australia and that means getting good connection to servers is nearly impossible. I know I shouldn't be playing on American servers at all, but here's my situation:
-Must play on American CoD 4 servers if I want to enter a normal server
-I have upwards of 350 ping with wifi

If I were to start using ethernet, how much could I reduce my ping to? Could I drop it to 200, or even less?

Thank you

Your ping should not change much at all. The only thing that going to a cable from WiFi would help would be the ping to your router, which will be just a few ms even on WiFi. If you want to change ping, you need to play on closer servers.
If you have the option, you should always try to game on a hardwired connection. Wifi is typically too unstable to be relied on. Hardwiring will stabilize your ping, but I don't think you'll see anywhere near the reduction in ping that you're hoping for. Australian ping has been an issue for a lot of people for a while now, so your concerns aren't isolated.

What happens if you ping your router ip while you are on wireless. Whatever number you get is the maximum you can decrease it. Wired will be less than 1ms to from your pc to the router. In most cases you get less than 10ms on wireless. If you live in a area of high interference it can be higher but I strongly suspect your problem is distance.

You can not fix the problem unless you have a way to go faster than the speed of light. A lot of your delay is purely how long the path is between you and the server.....and you never would really get a optical path all the way anyway.
