Good day to y'all. I saw several threads showing how the new skylake platform and z170 is broken and I actually ran into the same thing with ASUS HERO VIII returned 2 motherboards already for either being faulty or just failing BADLY at SLI and I am here to tell you it's not Skylake at fault here.. It's ASUS.. Yes Once again ASUS disappoints us with their glitchy motherboards. Went for an MSI Z170 Gaming M7 and it was flawless.. I am actually seeing a very good improvement on my SLI now and a much more solid build. Atm i'm on MSI Z170 Gaming M7 ( did not update the bios, no need to since it works) 32gb Ram Platinum Dominator Corsair 16gb each stick. Nvidia MSI Seahawk 980ti x2 gpu's and Intel i7 6700k processor no overclock yet on ram or on CPU.

Solution
I have seen a few threads specifically about the Hero VIII and SLI issues, that is true. Hopefully a one time fluke from ASUS.

Hero VI and VII by all accounts work fine. I have had ASUS boards for 3 out of 4 of my most recent builds. They are all still plugging along. (Though I think my X58 board might be having issues with long term exposure to high memory voltages)
