So I am new to building and I am trying to find this graphics card which is supposed to be one of the best GPUs available and I am noticing all these different variations (maybe just fans). One I noticed is one of the MSI versions which is a nice Red and Black which matches my ATX tower and potential MoBo that I am choosing, and then the other looks like the stock one which is silver and still looks BA. I also notice different packaging (is it only the packaging?) labeled with EVGA or EVGA "Superclocked" or something else. My big question is what is the difference between these models?

Please keep in mind I just inherited my first built PC from a friend so I barely know anything this project is my first real build so please treat me like someone who knows nothing about building pc's because I don't know much. Thank you.

Well, the best answer I can give you is find one that is in your price range. Beyond that the difference between the GPU made by different companies are the coolers that they use for the card, that's why they have all sorts of different fan setups. Some companies that use "Superclocked" for instance EVGA have made the GPU run at higher clock speeds; ultimately this means that the card will run faster and may perform a little better. For a first time builder though find what looks best and that you can afford. Beyond that people typically are concerned about noise and the Founder's Edition, which is sold by Nvidia, is a rear exhaust fan that may run more quiet that the blower style that you see other companies make.

Okay that helps a lot. But what about the difference between the Amazon Founders addition sold by NVIDIA ($549) and the one on NVIDIA's website which does not appear to be the Founder's addition for ($449). Any clue to the $100 price gap? To my eye they look exactly the same and I cannot find a real difference. Is it simply the retailer? Similarly I see one listed on Amazon under "Asus" for ($449) yet it seems to be exactly the same as all of the others. What would be the difference if any in these that look like the Founder's edition?

If it has Nvidia's reference cooler on it, which is the silver super angular thing with only one fan then it is the Founder's Edition and there is no difference.

I actually ended up getting a Zotac Amp Extreme 1080, I was talked into it elsewhere. So far it is a BEAST of a GPU. The only things limiting me now is the old @ss hardware I stuck it in. Going to put in an Asus ROG Maximus VIII Formula MB in it with an i7 6700K CPU, Corsair H115 fan, Samsung 850Pro SSD, and Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB RAM kit, all wrapped up in a nice new Corsair Obsidian 750D case.
