How many Windows 7 Pro Updates are there?

Hello. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is an exact amount of updates that have come out from Microsoft that the Windows Update tool sees and can download? I was wondering because I have been having issues with Windows Update just continuously searching and not finding anything (left on for hours) and so I had to update using an offline method which comes with a certain amount of them. I tried deleting the cache from the Software Distribution folder to make the Update tool reset and that did not work. Is there around 300 updates in total as of today?

I can't give you the precise figure, but I can tell you that I currently have 269 updates installed for Windows proper/.NET/etc., another 40 that I've hidden instead of installing, and 38 more associated with Microsoft Word and Works. (That's for Windows 7 Pro Service Pack 1.) So yeah, there's a bunch.

Thank you all for the information. Yes, this was indeed from a SP1 install (brand new install disc), so it sounds like that had saved me some time but it seems that there are more updates out there that I am missing. I tried the Microsoft Fix it options as well with no luck.
