I had a 500GB seagate hdd that was causing my pc to reboot on its own, so I decided to clone it and then restored it to factory settings.

I have no idea why it started shutting down but I suspect it was because I started the windows 10 update and didn't finish it. I can't be sure and I would like some suggestions on this.

A few days ago there was a system 32error, which is when I decided to restore it. After restoring, it said the bootmgr is missing. The clone I made of that drive on a 1tb wd fails to show the desktop once it boots. It prepares the desktop, then shows the windows 10 update screen, and then just shows a blue screen.

I have a backup of that 500 hdd on a flashdrive from a few months ago before I upgraded my rig, but there is no option for me to recover the hdd with the backup on the flashdrive.

So now I literally can't even boot this pc. I need a suggestion for what the best thing to do now is. I have no boot/recovery disk btw. Only the HP manufacturers windows 7 code.

Hey there, @Mordecai12!

I suspect that your old 500 GB HDD might have been corrupted. If it truly was, you were cloning the corrupted data as well. I'd recommend you perform a fresh install of Windows onto the 1 TB WD HDD as I believe that would resolve the issue. You just need to create a bootable flash drive with the OS version that was pre-installed on the computer. Once you have the OS up and running, use the backup of that 500 GB drive to restore any important data that you wish to access onto your system. Make sure you hurry up, though, if you wish to upgrade to Windows 10 for free afterwards. Tomorrow is your last chance to do so. :)

Good luck!
