Hello guys, I am currenty shopping for my very first build, and I am planning on getting a GTX 1080, the ASUS STRIX in particular.

Only after doing a little bit of reading over the net that I found out that it is the only card with only two DIsplayports instead of three like all the other cards on the market, eventhough it has an extra HDMI port, I was wondering if this would cause me any problem in terms of future proofing (installing a three screen setup).

Can anyone with enough experience tell me what I will be loosing If I had one less Displayport???

Should I just go with another card with the standard 3 displayport and 1 HDMI?

How beneficial is to have a third Displayport? and what are the chances of an average gamer needing a third Displayport in the future?

Thanks a lot.

It's not a requirement. You just have to have 3 digital signals.

But if you want 3 G-sync monitors to work, then DP is needed for all 3, but then again, you could use a daisy chain hub if push comes to shove. What's more likely for you, to use a TV through HDMI and VIVE or other HDMI device, or using 3 G-sync monitors? That's probably the most important question.
Given that you can daisy chain multiple DP monitors over a single port with something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815158403&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Audio+Video+Converters-_-N82E16815158403&gclid=Cj0KEQjwt-G8BRDktsvwpPTn1PkBEiQA-MRsBcO9EcWwJzgjZnlMxIdh6mJIcWrZOqVIe91EKY9_9E4aAk5w8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

I'd say if anything, the extra HDMI port is an advantage. There could be some limitations with multiple 4K monitors with daisy chaining that I'm not aware of. Having an extra HDMI 2.0b port can make it easier to support a TV and VIVE at the same time. In the end, unless you know of a specific reason to need that extra DP or HDMI port, just get the one you think is best suited for you.

Yeah guys, and the funny part is that the ASUS founders Edition's got the standard three Displayports and 1 HDMI, I just can't understand why they would replace that Displayport into an HDMI for the high end Gamers Editions. Some will say it will be for connecting a VR headset and a monitor at the same time, but I can see myself doing so using the HDMI for the VR and a Displayport for the screen.....

Yeah James, the Nvidia Surround is a good argument to have that 3rd Displayport, especially if you want your screens to run above the 60hz.

I was choosing the ASUS because I read that it out performs most of the other OC Graphic cards including the EVGAs, plus I have an ASUS motherboard, not sure if this is relevant but thought it could be easier to have them from the same manufacturer.

Well that question is very pertinent, I definitely see myself going for the 3 G-sync in the future rather than a VIVE and having to stream it through a TV.

That link only verifies what I said.

A bit of a misunderstanding. It was a response to James saying how 3 dp is needed. But you seem to already know it's not a requirement plus bystander already mentioned the mst hub. If you are going with 3 gsync in the future, you might as well save yourself the trouble and get 3 dp. Asus gpu and asus mobo makes no difference.

It wouldn't matter to me either way since I only run 1 monitor over DP and I will only need 1 HDMI for my Vive in the future. If you want 3 DP I would go with the Gigabyte G1 model.

I really like my G1 1070. It is very similar to the Asus Strix in terms of power phases and fan setup. The reason I went with the G1 is because it was cheaper than the EVGA SC with more power phases.
