So basically yesterday I got a new PC, and it turns out my damned monitor doesn't have an HDMI slot. So my friend got me a cable that has a HDMI end and a VGA end, and then I turned my PC on, after plugging in my cable. But this message came up 'Check Video Cable'

Usually it would say 'VGA - No signal DVI - No signal' So I'm not sure what's up with this. Could this be that my monitor was used to having a DVI cable plugged in?

Solution
An HDMI to DVI cable is a much better choice. HDMI and DVI are both digital interfaces. VGA is an analog interface and requires an active converter. Don't use VGA.
