New Wireless Adapter has really slow internet speeds

I just recently bought the ASUS PCE-AC55BT to see if I can get really fast internet speeds. I've been running a USB Wireless adapter and I've been getting 2-5 Mb/s download speed on speedtest.net and I just couldn't take the slow internet speed anymore. When I got and installed the ASUS PCE-AC55BT, the first 15 minutes with it was the most satisfying moment of my PC experience. I was getting 25 Mb/s download speed on speedtest.net (I know this is slow but this is the fastest download speed I've ever got) and was able to stream 4k videos on youtube on my 4k monitor. Even steam games were downloading at 3 Mb/s which were the fastest i've ever seen steam download. Then after that my internet just went to downhill and i've been having download speeds similar to that of when I had my USB Wireless Adapter. Sometimes my internet would be even slower than the USB adapter where I can't even use the GTA 5 launcher because the internet is too slow. Right now I don't know whats going on with my adapter and any help would be nice.

and all bars are 4 if i remember? Your speed is heavily dependant on the signal strength, when you select status on your network connection tab you can see the speed it is synchronizing. If it has 2 bars, maybe that's why your speed is lower! Embrace the network cable and enjoy full speed!

Are you sure this is the reason why? And I would use ethernet if the router wasn't so far away from my PC.

It's wireless, so it could be anything from interference in the walls, to someone walking in front of the path to your computer, to competing signals from a microwave or cordless phone. If you can't run an ethernet cable from your computer to the router, I'd look in to ethernet over powerline adapters. They're going to be much better than wireless for what you want to do.

Well if this is the case, is there a reasonable explanation about my first 15 minutes of fast speeds with this adapter only lasted that long?

Normally I'd say you want to make sure you're on the most up to date drivers, but Asus doesn't even have drivers for the thing. It's pretty new so I'm not sure if you're experiencing a one off or if its going to be consistent on this. One thing people have said in reviews is they had poor performance before rebooting their router. Give it a shot.
