Is my psu good enough to run a gtx 1070/1060 and i7 4790?

i have an antec vp500pc 500w had it for about two years now running an i5 4460 and r9 270x, i want to upgrade to aither a gtx 1070 or 1060 and im getting an i7 4790 from my friend, will this psu be good enough to run those components or should i get a better quality one? never had any problems with it even tho i used to have times when the electricity suddenly went out in my house while the pc was on.
edit: i do not want to do any overclocking on either the card or the cpu (the cpu is non k anyway)

Solution

He actually says he's not that tight on a budget. ;)

I wasn't arguing about upgrading btw, just wanted you to know that the current psu should do fine for the upgrades.Since the psu has a two year warranty period and you already have it for two years is it maybe not that bad to get a better one,but it's up to you.
With just 408W on the +12V rails, I wouldn't try it.

The Antec VP is a basic PSU and shouldn't be used with such high-end components. Do yourself a favour and get something from tier one or two in this list; http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html. A good PSU is an investment; it'll look after your PC and outlive every other component.

it says its 500w idk it ran my card who requires more power the both cards, but i do feel like it might be unsafe so i get your point. any other opinions?

Well the 1070 power needs is. At 220w max load. Your CPU should be using around 100w and all the had and ssd motherboard and driver with fans around 150w .470w used .if you have electricity problems you may wanna go for a psu with over and under vlots protection .probably a gold one with more than 850w . To have head room for sli and extra stuff.:D hope this helped you out.

The gtx 1070 is a 150watt tdp gpu,it doesn't use 220watts at stock or even factory overclocked.The cpu is the same story.A motherboard+fans+drives certainly doesn't use 150watts

@ gnox111,
Your current cpu+gpu use about the same amount of wattage so i think you can try it on the current psu.The new parts won't use a whole lot more.

I do agree that a btter one would be a good buy, like mentioned a tier 1 or 2 psu. With two years is the current psu at it's end of the warranty period s well, something to consider as well.

A system needs more than 236 to start working. What you are saying is impossible. Otherwise the max psu would be like 700w . A system cant run with 240w .it is more possible to be the power draw of the card .

If you really think that then you just don't know what you're talking about.

It says above the stats you we're using,

System Power Consumption (watts)
means total system draw, and i'm not even starting about energy efficiency (psu being bronze/gold etc.) which still needs to be applied since these readings probably are measured from the wall.

sorry for the late respond but yea that what i was thinking, all tho all these people saying that i should upgrade made me start thinking about it, so i dont really know, im not that tight on budget its just that i dont want to buy something unless its completely necessary

oh ok then, im now considering the upgrade all tho i still dont understand how will the psu wont be enough if the graphics card consumes less power then my current gpu

the simple answer it will be enough but there is a possibility that its not going to be stable and it could potentially harm other components in your computer as the CX series from Corsair is very poorly made. as you're on a tight budget I would say look at something like the XFX "TS" series you don't need anything over the top the 550W power supply will be enough for your system and they are pretty cheap and very good.
