I currently am running a FX-4300 and am looking to upgrade to a RX 480 for my birthday. After that, I plan to save up for either a I3-6100, I3-6300, or a I3-6320. Before I do, I want to know which is better. I also would like to know if there good for gaming recording and editing, along with if I would see a noticeable performance boost with an i3 and rx 480 over a fx-4300 and a rx 480. I am also open to other suggestions for a cpu, but they can't be too expensive.

Solution
You would see a significant improvement over the FX 4300 with the i3 6100.
The only difference between them is higher clock speeds on the 6300 and 6320, but only by a minimal amount.
It doesn't warrant the large price difference between them and the 6100.
Pick up a Gigabyte H110M-A, the i3 6100, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM and you're good to go!
A good RAM recommendation is the Ripjaws V 2x8 16GB 2400MHz kit which is going for cheap right now in silver if you don't mind the color.

Thanks a lot man. Do you think the 6100 will be good for my uses? I plan to record and edit various games like GTA V, so I want to make sure before I buy that this will suit my needs. Also, do you know any lga 1151 mobos that support ddr3? It would be easier since I already have 8 gigs and I don't really know if I need 16 or not.

If you plan to edit and record, you will 100% need an i5. This will also alleviate the 5-10% bottleneck the i3 has with the RX480.
An i5 is overall the best option to build with for mid range builds due to the fact that it will remain relevant for many years to come, and will allow you to upgrade to something like a 1070 with no issue.
You will need DDR4 memory for the LGA 1151 socket, as it runs at a lower voltage compared to DDR3, which may fry your motherboard RAM slots if you attempt to use it. xD
Get the same build I recommended below, swapping out the i3 for the i5 6500.

I can't afford the the i5-6500, it's just too much money. That's around 500 for the rx 480 and cpu. Do you have any other recommendations? I can always get a 8350 or something like that.

Nope, don't get an 8350, terrible CPU in terms of potential.
The hard line is, if you want to edit and record, you'll need an i5 in order to handle that load sufficiently, there's no way around it unfortunately. :(
Save up a bit, a new CPU, RAM, motherboard and GPU is a big investment, just make sure its a good one.

It is only $90 more for an investment that will nearly double your productivity and rendering speed, and will allow you to upgrade your graphics card further without investing in ANOTHER CPU later down the line.
I can't help you if you can't afford it, but just save up for a month before you pull the trigger. The RX 480 4GB models are low in stock anyway.

100 dollars will take another 5-6 months. I am under 18 and don't have a steady way of making money as I'm not legally old enough to be hired. I can record pretty nicely at the moment, but my current gpu is limiting me. To keep bottlenecking to a minimum I planned on getting a i3, not spending $200 on i5.

After looking at some benchmarks, I decided to just get a i5-6400. i5-6500 is too expensive for me as I can't find sales under 200$, but the i3 won't provide the performance I need. i5-6400 is relatively cheap if I look in the right places, and seems to do great.

Sound good! :)
The 6500 offers higher clock speeds over the 6400, but either is still a good choice though obviously the 6500 is optimal. :D

Yeah I would have went for a 6500, but there's some great deals on 6400s that would get them more into my price range. Motherboard and ram prices I can handle easily but the price tags for i5s where killing me for a bit.

A slight correction, It would burn out the memory controller located in the skylake CPU. Not the motherboard.

Well hey, frying the memory controller essentially makes the motherboard obsolete due to the fact it needs RAM to run anyway, so best to just count them both as dead. :p

Change of plans again. I'm now stuck on the i5-2500k or the i7-2600k. Both are cheaper, and seem to offer great over clocking. I can always get a cpu cooler so that I can over clock to 4ghz. Would this be as good or better for gaming recording and editing? I would be playing GTA V and other games like that.

I was also wondering how well this would go for future proofing. I was originally just gonna get the i3-6100 and upgrade to a new LGA 1151 cpu in the future, and im worried that if I go for a i5-2500k or a i7-2600k i won't have much upgrade room in the future.

I could even get a i5-6500 now I think after looking at pricing. I could go for. I7-2700k or i5-2500k and have a good cpu but no upgrade path, or sky lake which is more expensive but has a good upgrade path.

Get the 2600k, much better processor.
This would be perfect for recording and editing, as it would allow you to multitask and render much faster than with an i5.
It can overclock like a beast too. :)
Get the Cryorig H7 to go with it, $35 on newegg.

Thanks for all the help man. Do you think I should go for the 2700k though? Also, is this i7 gonna be worth while to spend the extra money on over a i5-2500k? I'm buying these off of eBay by the way, so they aren't brand new. And I planned on ocing, so that's for reccomending a cooler. Do you know any board that can support crossfire and ocing for a cpu like this? I planned to upgrade to a second rx 480 in the future so I kinda wanted a crossfire board now so I don't need a new board in the future.

Oh, and also, how well do you think it will hold up in the future? I don't really want to spend another 250$ anytime soon for a new cpu, so do you think the i7-2700k or similar will last me for a long time? I know it's not good future proofing wise unless I upgrade to a 3770k down the line.

Nice, thanks for all the help man. Z77s where like 200$ everywhere else so good find. I'll probably be able to get a this in a couple weeks of of summer work if I'm lucky.
