I suppose the first thing i should mention is that this is my first pc build. I had one friend help me on which parts to order and another to come round my house and help me build it.

the parts for the system are:
- AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor
- Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Evo 43.1 CFM CPU Cooler
- ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
- Crucial 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
- Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
- MSI GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card
- BitFenix Nova ATX Mid Tower Case
- EVGA 600W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply

I got the system built 2 days ago and the pc turned of just fine, fans span as they should and everything seemed to be working perfectly. The day after (yesterday) i got windows 8 installed and downloaded my normal programes (steam, firefox, league of legends .ect) as well as the drivers for my gpu. I tried playing tomb raider(2013) to see what my computer could handle and after 15 mineutes the computer shut off randomly without anyway warning. At the same time i noticed that the computer had gotten really hot so i left it off to cool down. I started playing again and the same thing happened after a similar amount of time.Once again i let it cool off and instead chose to play something less taxing such as surgeon simulator to see what would happen and sure enough it turned itself off again. At this point it was past 1 am so i figured i would get some sleep and try again in the morning.

This morning i woke up and went to my PC to see if the issue was still there and the pc wouldnt turn on. when i pressed the on buttton the fans didn't spin, no lights came on, the pc made no noise and the monitor stayed black. i have checked the power supply is turned on, plugged in and that the socket is working with other devises. I asked my friend who built it what i should do and he said it was probably to do with the power supply he also said come ask here. I could really use some advice and any help would be appreciated.

I appologise if i have the wrong tags, category or anything like that, like i said im new to the site and pc building.

Solution
Try turning the power off on the back of the PSU for a few seconds, flip the switch back on, and try booting up. Try it a few times if you can, seems to work for me when I run into somewhat similar problems.

Try to reseat the ram - this is removing each stick from the slots and putting them back in. If that does not work try with an individual stick. Sounds simple but sometimes this can cause a PC to not boot.

It could be that your video card has burned up some how check that out and see if you notice anything you shouldn't on it like looks and smell it sounds weird to smell a video card but once you smell the "smell" you will know. I'm only talking from experience
