I have n SSD that was my boot drive for my desktop with Win 7 64 bit loaded on it ( just applications and OS) I cloned the drive to a larger drive and want to erase the drive so i can reuse it in another computer.
1) Windows 7 sees the drive and load device drivers for it successfully. It shows up in device manager with serial number and model number
2 The drive is not seen in Windows Explorer./ Myu Computer
3) the drive is not seen in Disk Management

How can i get windows 7 to see it? and allow me to erase and reformat the drive?

Many thanks,
Tom

Hey there, Tom.

You could try it with a different SATA port and cables, or even with a different computer to see if it is recognized in Disk Management.

Other than that you could give it a try with the SSD manufacturer's utility tool. Most of those tools have the option so secure erase the drive. Of course this is, if the drive is recognized by the aforementioned tool.

Another option would be to try and clean it via Diskpart, to see if the drive is recognized by Disk Management afterwards. If it is, you'd have to initialize it before you're able to partition and format it.
Here's how to clean a dive via Diskpart:
1. Open CMD (Command Prompt) as admin
2. Type diskpart and press "enter"
3. Type list disk and press "enter"...

4. Type select disk X where "X" is the number of the disk you wish to select. E.g. if your drive appears as #3 then you should type "select disk 3". It's really important that you select the correct drive so that you don't delete another drive's data. You should be able to recognize your SSD by its size if it's detected by Diskpart at all
5. Type clean and press "enter". Wait for the process to finish, you should get a message similar to "Diskpart succeeded in cleaning the disk".

Another option would be to try and reformat the drive via a Windows installation media such as a USB flash drive or a DVD.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.
